Programme Policy Officer

Description:

The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking an experienced Programme Policy Officer to lead and support risk reduction, emergency preparedness, and risk financing in Pakistan. The selected candidate will work closely with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and other government bodies to enhance disaster management capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Act as WFP’s transition focal point for risk reduction, emergency preparedness, and risk financing.

• Manage WFP’s engagement with NDMA and provincial authorities for disaster planning and training.

• Support the development of a national strategic grain reserve for emergency food security.

• Lead coordination with UN agencies, donors, and private sector stakeholders on emergency preparedness.

• Develop proposals and strategic documents to access climate and risk financing.

• Strengthen national capacity building efforts through training and assessments.

Requirements:

✔ Education: Advanced degree in social sciences, economics, international development, or public policy.
✔ Experience: Minimum 8 years in emergency preparedness, risk reduction, and response. In-country experience is required; regional experience is a plus.
✔ Skills:

• Strong policy analysis and programme management expertise.

• Ability to work cross-functionally across units and partners.

• Experience in risk financing and anticipatory action frameworks.

• Proficiency in strategic planning, stakeholder coordination, and proposal writing.
  ✔ Language: Fluency in English (Level C) required.
