Responsibilities
- Conferring with production, design, and sales personnel to obtain design suggestions and customer orders.
- Production Designing expert, (Seating Furniture, Home Furniture, Offices Furniture, Outdoor Furniture, Kids Furniture, Restaurant Furniture, Industry Furniture.)
- Creating sketches and drawings freehand of new designs using software such as Auto-CAD or 3D sketch-up.
- Preparation of detailed drawings, material list (BOM/BOQ) and cutting list for production.
- Creating detailed sketches or drawings of furniture pieces or other products that can be used by manufacturers for mass production
- Creating computerized models of designs using specialized computer software such as Auto-CAD or Solid-works/3D sketch-up .
- Developing prototypes of designs using computer-assisted design (CAD) software and other design tools such as digital drawing boards or drafting tables.
- Meeting with clients to discuss their needs and preferences and recommending materials, colors, and styles that will meet their goals.
- Obtaining approval from customer, design committee, or authorized company officials.
- Preparing or directing preparation of blueprints containing manufacturing specifications, such as dimensions, wood type, and upholstery fabrics to be used in manufacturing article.
- Attending staff conference with plant personnel to explain and resolve production requirements.
- Designing and preparing detailed drawings of jigs, fixtures, forms, or tools required to be used in production.
- Developing a thorough understanding of current trends in style so new designs will be desirable to consumers
- Building or overseeing the development of prototypes and computer aided design models before going into production.
- Reviewing existing furniture designs to identify opportunities for improvement or change
- Designing fixtures and equipment, such as counters and display case.
Education: Most furniture designers have at least a bachelor’s degree in furniture design Some furniture designers choose to pursue a master’s degree in furniture design or interior design to further their education and increase their earning potential.
