Power System Engineer

 

Description:

Energy Futures Consulting is seeking a technically strong and motivated Power System Engineer to join our engineering team. This role involves power system design, simulation, analysis, and client engagement across utility-scale and industrial renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, battery storage, and microgrids. The ideal candidate will play a key role in designing and optimizing electrical networks to improve energy efficiency and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

πŸ”§ System Design & Engineering
βœ… Design and develop electrical system layouts for grid-connected, hybrid, and off-grid systems.
βœ… Prepare Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), equipment sizing, interconnection drawings, and protective schemes.
βœ… Conduct power system studies using ETAP, including:

  • Load flow analysis

  • Short-circuit calculations

  • Protection coordination

  • Arc flash analysis

  • Harmonic distortion studies

  • Transient and dynamic stability studies

🌬️ Technology Coverage
βœ… Work across various renewable energy technologies, including:

  • Solar PV (rooftop, ground-mounted, utility-scale)

  • Wind energy systems

  • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

  • Hybrid and microgrid systems

  • Energy-efficient industrial networks

πŸ“Š Analysis & Optimization
βœ… Model and simulate electrical systems using ETAP as the primary platform.
βœ… Analyze power quality, grid compliance, reactive power compensation, and energy loss reduction.
βœ… Recommend system-level improvements for energy reliability and performance.

πŸ“ Documentation & Deliverables
βœ… Prepare and review technical reports, BOQs, feasibility studies, design packages, and system studies.
βœ… Support in RFP responses and client presentations.

🀝 Client Coordination & Project Support
βœ… Engage with clients (especially from the Commercial & Industrial (C&I) sector) to gather technical requirements and present findings.
βœ… Participate in stakeholder discussions, site meetings, and technical walkthroughs.
βœ… Assist in project management tasks such as timeline planning, team coordination, and deliverable tracking under the Head of Projects.

βœ… Stay updated on international standards (IEC, IEEE), utility interconnection codes, and emerging energy technologies.
βœ… Collaborate internally to enhance workflows and digital tools for system modeling and analysis.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

πŸŽ“ Education:
βœ” Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Power Engineering (Master’s preferred in Power Systems or Clean Energy).

πŸ“œ Certifications (Preferred):
βœ” ETAP Certified User (Highly Preferred).
βœ” Certifications in renewable energy (solar/wind), BESS, or grid interconnection are a plus.

βœ” 3–6 years of experience in power system design and studies.
βœ” Hands-on experience with ETAP for system modeling, analysis, and reporting.
βœ” Experience with solar, wind, and storage projects in utility or industrial environments.

  • Power system protection and design

  • Harmonics and transient stability

  • Grid interconnection and compliance

  • Power quality and reactive power compensation

    βœ” Familiarity with HOMER, AutoCAD, or other energy tools is a plus.
