Description:
As a Media and Outreach Officer you will be responsible for developing and implementing effective communication strategies to enhance the visibility of organization and its initiatives. This role involves managing media relations, creating engaging content, managing social media and building strong relationships with stakeholders, including the public, partners, and media outlets. The ideal candidate is a creative communicator, content writer with a passion for storytelling and a strong understanding of media and outreach practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Content Creation:
- Develop engaging content for various platforms, including social media, websites, newsletters, and print materials.
- Write and edit articles, blogs, opinion pieces, and success stories to highlight the organization's work.
- Collaborate with the design team to produce visual content that aligns with the organization's outlook and message.
- Manage the organization’s social media accounts, ensuring consistent and strategic messaging.
Outreach & Networking:
- Plan and execute outreach campaigns to raise awareness about the organization’s programs and initiatives.
- Organize events, workshops, and webinars to engage with the community and stakeholders.
- Develop partnerships with other organizations, community groups, and key stakeholders to expand the organization’s reach.
- Represent the organization at conferences, meetings, and networking events.
Strategic Communication:
- Develop and implement communication strategies to support the organization’s goals and objectives.
- Identify opportunities for enhancing the organization’s visibility and reputation.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communication strategies and adjust as needed.
- Prepare reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
Media Relations:
- Build and maintain relationships with journalists, bloggers, influencers, and media outlets.
- Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories, and other relevant communications.
- Coordinate media coverage for events, campaigns, and organizational initiatives.
- Monitor media coverage and analyze its effectiveness.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Development Studies, International Relations or a related field.
- Proven experience in media relations, public relations, or communications (minimum three years).
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Experience managing social media platforms and creating content for digital channels.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in using media monitoring and content management tools.
- Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.
