Description:

As a Climate Science Associate at Ahya, your responsibilities will include supporting climate science research and analysis, data collection and management, and assisting in the development of climate models and algorithms. You will also contribute to the improvement of Ahya's climate science and artificial intelligence technologies by collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance in GHG accounting (scope 1, 2 and 3) and sustainability reporting;
  • Apply knowledge of GHG accounting methodologies, standards, and reporting frameworks such as GHG Protocol, Global Reporting Initiative Standards (GRI), Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), IFRS S1 and IFRS S2;
  • Develop tailored sustainability strategies and net-zero transition plans for various clients that align with their goals and regulatory requirements;
  • Build data visualisations to communicate environmental impacts and future emission forecasting;
  • Research and communicate key emerging information and trends relating to GHG accounting, climate change policy and carbon markets;
  • Conduct financial and environmental modelling for voluntary emission reduction projects;
  • Provide technical input to the product team on voluntary carbon markets;
  • Support the implementation and onboarding of new projects including due diligence, carbon credit forecasting and eligibility control;
  • Develop and implement an organisational strategy for engaging with relevant market intermediaries, including brokers and exchanges.

 

Requirements

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Accounting, Economics, Business or similar discipline;
  • Knowledge of GHG accounting methodology as well as sustainability reporting frameworks and standards;
  • Understanding of key regulatory drivers such as GHG Protocol, SBTi, IFRS S-1, IFRS S-2 and GRI
  • Knowledge of the voluntary carbon market, offtake strategies, carbon finance, climate solution technologies, participants, and market trends;
  • Good understanding of carbon credit certifying standards (such as Verra, Gold Standard) and carbon registries;
  • Familiarity with legal requirements pertaining to Article 6 of the Paris Agreement;
  • Experience in assessing carbon offset project quality, conservation financing and impact analysis;
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills which include climate/financial modelling and advanced Excel;
  • Good presentation and communication skills;
  • Time management and organisational skills, including prioritising and effectively managing multiple tasks and assignments with competing demands.
