Responsibilities

You will be responsible to:

  • serve as an advocate for the provision of exemplary medical care and assist Chief Medical Officer in the development of medical staff policies, procedures, and practices for the university
  • supervise, monitor, and improve core departmental processes including adverse events, legal affairs, risk management and sensitive complaints
  • support the senior manager in medicolegal cases and work closely with the legal office of AKUH, PBSD, finance for effective and timely resolution of litigations and high-risk complaints
  • work closely with the hospital representative in the AKUH legal office and the external counsel in all medical malpractice cases of AKUH and secondary hospitals
  • review the medical records and prepare the case summaries for submission in the court
  • coach the doctors for court appearances with legal office support
  • assist in the process from the first notice (or intimation) all the way down to arranging doctors’ statements
  • support senior manager patient experience department in conducting root cause analysis for sentinel event and serious adverse events
  • manage and mitigate medical negligence claims, both civil and criminal
  • facilitate in managing the legal, reputational, and financial risks to the institution through sensitive complaints
  • assist senior manager of patient experience department as focal person of AKUH in all matters related to regulatory bodies like Sindh Healthcare Commission, PMDC, and others
  • assist Chief Medical Officer as focal person of AKUH in all matters related to government and non-government bodies like nab, health department government of Sindh and others
  • act as a key member of risk management committee, mitigate or eliminate the risk to the institution in all sensitive complaints and incidences by actively interacting with all the stake holders
  • assist the senior manager of patient experience department, in ensuring maintenance of the risk register for the AKU healthcare system, with direct responsibility for central risk registration and cooperation with the various departments for departmental risk registration
  • facilitate finance insurance department regarding medical malpractice insurance related matters
  • assist and advise the Chief Medical Officer in reviewing and updating of medical staff policies, procedures, and standard operating protocols (SOPs)
  • perform any other task assigned by Senior Manager/ CMO.
